Chattanooga barracks 1864

In his diary, my 2x great grandfather mentions staying at a barracks in Chattanooga in 1864 "right in site of Lookout Mountain". A few days later he indicates he left the barracks and "went to the Soldiers lodge" and from there to "Convalescent camp on the east side of the town close to Chattanooga". Is there someone who may shed light on these locations please. Any maps or descriptions? Thank you.
