i came across this pic and want to know details

The picture in which you are interested appears to be that of an Army officer, probably Civil War era, from Michigan (based on the photographer's seal on the back.) Do you have any other information on the picture that might help us help you figure out the identity of the subject?

ExNavyPilot, I cheated by using Google image search:

​

1. Right-click on the image you want to search for, and choose, "View Image"
2. Shrink (but not minimize) the browser window with the image, and open a new browser window.
3. Go to Google, and type in a generic search term that fits the subject (e.g., "civil war union officer" without the quotes)
4. Select the images sub-menu to pull up images in Google's database that match those keywords.
5. Go back to your first browser window. Click-and-drag the picture up toward the Google search bar. A new window should appear, "Drop Image Here." Drop the image there.

Google will now use your original image to search for visually-similar images that match the one you dropped in the search box. Hopefully, you'll find a match!
