U. S. Sword Bayonet reference?

I think I already know the answer to this question, but I have to ask. Is there a recent, comprehensive reference work on U. S. sword bayonets?

I have read the various articles and have the commonly cited books, but they are very general and tend to repeat each other. Is there anything published that discusses in detail all the different types of sword bayonets: blade length and configuration, variations in hilts to include mortises, interchangeability, manufacturers, markings, specific models for specific weapons, scabbards and frogs, and is complete with decent pictures? The only book specifically on sword bayonets that I am aware of is Davis' 1972 monograph, US Sword Bayonets, 1847 - 1865.

James Brenner "Sword Bayonets 1847 - 1865: A Compilation of Sword Bayonets Issued to the Military Services of the United States Prior to and during the Civil War" is the only publication that I know of on the subject.

I think Paul Johnson is working on a book. There is so much to cover, and so many small variants it's quite an undertaking, so I am unsure if he even has a timetable for publication. He has several articles that have come out in the Society of American Bayonet Collectors that would be worth looking at.
In the meantime there is a nice website that could be handy. https://sites.google.com/view/us-br...tUa3dwJoAmu76qIsawm90bvJGePyt-0VvgJHn8s&pli=1

Thank you very much for this reference. I just skimmed through it, but it is what I was looking and hoping for.

I will need to take some measurements to confirm, but I think this site has already helped me ID at least one bayonet: it's a Whitney with an Ohio marked scabbard.

Glad it was helpful! I reference it pretty regularly.

Merry Christmas!
