I have heard rumors, there are some groundhogs that wander around the front. There was a story about someone becoming trapped in there when the train passed through. there is supposed to be a little niche to hide in and get out of the way of the train. There is very little space in there so you need to get out before a train comes back in the day.
I have been to that site many times. Yes there are many ghost stories regarding Tunnel Hill. I have often been told that Cleburne's troops once camped on some high ground close to the Tunnel.
Cleburne was. But N B Forrest and John Wilder had a skirmish there before Cleburne came up and after Wheeler was run off. Forrest was wounded but it's unsure where - some say across the lower back, others in the arm. I do believe it was the arm, at least according to this photo: it's a little hard to see here but there's a bullet hole in the left arm of his coat.
It use to be. I haven't been over there in about 5 years. We were able to tour the Tunnel back then. I was able to go through the Tunnel about 10-15 years ago on a tour led by a local historian. He shared some fascinating stories and facts about the Tunnel.
