Trivia question:

Soon after the Battle of Gettysburg, Gen. Alexander Hays wrote angrily to his wife, "Everybody wants glory, and to obtain it cheat honest men out of their rights. I send you a clipping from the 'Tribune' of July 6th. I was the only one of the name in the fight of the 3rd, and there is no mistake of who is who."

To whom was he referring?

godofredus:
Thank you. I'd never heard of William Hays until I began to research Alexander Hays for one of the mini-bios in my recently published e-Book, "What They Did There: Profiles From the Battle of Gettysburg."
