So I try to support the battlefields by making small purchases when I visit. It's not much, I know, but remember the parable of the Widow's Mite. Besides stamping my National Parks passport wherever I can, I look for souvenir patches to sew on a banner I display in my campsites. I'm on year 3 of a 4-year tour. Alas, I didn't plan the start very well and visited Appomattox Court House in the first year, and won't see Fort Sumter until the last stop.

Please forgive the masses of cat hair. My furballs are shedding at an alarming rate.

Great idea. I guess I overlook these nice patches. But I agree with your idea. During the 150th Anniversary, I toured several sites but I choose to purchase a painted lead figure. These were the nice figures from Britain company. Now I forgot which figure I bought at which Park.
Oh, I also take my Passport to get stamped as well as a book on that battlefield.

This is like the alpine hat with pins from different locations that you see on German tourists in Europe, or the walking stick badges they attach to their walking sticks. Some in the U.S. wear vests with patches and pins. Your approach keeps you from sticking out like a sore thumb when you tour, while documenting your travels when back at your campsite. I bet it makes a good conversation starter around the campfire.

I do pins. I collect from all sites not just Civil War. I have them on different hats I have.

I try to remember my Passport Book but sometimes forget. I have stamped a piece of paper they put out and attach to my book.

Very nice banner.

I finished this year's tours. Was surprised to find the souvenir shop at Chancellorsville had a patch for nearby Spotsylvania but not Chancellorsville itself. So I added a pin for that one instead, and one for Glorietta Pass. Now to plan next year's visits to Kennesaw Mountain, Fort Sumter, Petersburg, Harpers Ferry, and Monocacy.
