Transports On The James River.

The river tug Elizabeth and two Sanitary Commission vessels are tied up at a landing on the James River. There is a military presence as can be seen by the soldiers guarding the barge and watering the horses. Their camp is possibly on the bluff to the right. Of special interest here is the small figure of a woman on the pilot house of the tug. Perhaps she represents the Elizabeth for which the boat is named.

Sheets/tarps hung for shade, men working topside. Looks like that stack (above the 'tent') belongs to the much larger vessel behind, making this one, apparently, an powered barge(?). Then, why the pilot-house?

Lots of shipping in the background, way up river. At least one big side-wheeler, probably a gunboat, to the right.

I am wondering if in the background is City Point and the foreground is Bermuda Hundred landing? Hidden on the right would be where the Appomattox River enters the James River.
