Was the title, although the transport is small and in the distance, beating against the current if not rapids, still kind of cool to me, a group watching, the ship making way using a lot of steam.Plus there's a lot going on in this photo. A few onlookers are distracted by the man pointing at a large bird ( crane or heron ) flying nearby, heads turn away from following the ship's progress to watch the bird's progress. Also kinda cool.

Thanks for posting all these great, but seldom (certainly never by me, anyways) photos. Where do you dig them up??

Oh heck it's easy but not really easy- most have been from our National Archives? Just am stuck on them at the moment. It'll peter out soon- although there are an awful lot, started poking around saving threads for our forum ' Ladies Tea '. Got badly side tracked with some of these- love ships, too, and pontoon bridges, photos of people doing nothing in particular, soldiers, camps, the infantry- they're very light on cavalry save a few- and of course our women.

I say maybe not so easy because BOY it can be tough to find the right search tool to take you to them. There's one place, ' Vaults ' that isn't it- it shows you photos very artistically, but that's it. hen you finally FIND something which says what you think it should and.... nope- you have to find the right words highlighted in blue inside that entire page somewhere, like some maddening ' Where's Waldo' without a hat. While on one hysterically silly search, one of those surveys popped up, did I wish to take it? Yes, yes I did. All 8's and 9's and 10's- great site, amazing content, thanks very much for preserving our nation's most wonderful History. And a 1 for ease of use. It asked for commentary and I said just that- thanks very much, super site, could not ask for better, but please please please may we be able to find the items? Single toughest site to navigate ever.

I certainly appreciate your efforts. The famous shots, we've all seen, but these lesser known ones are very interesting. Feel free to get side tracked anytime. Thanks again for posting...........

That's very kind, ha! It was nice, finding CWT- more people interested in general in pretty much everything, willing to put up with the over- eager beginners. They've been indulging this kind of thing for 3 years and it's infrequent you get laughed at for being wrong. Really like the not well-known shots too, especially if there are a ton of people in them. You learn a LOT, members stop in with ' captions' so it ends up being trolling fro information. :)

Yes, please keep posting any photos that interest you, because they interest most of the rest of us, too. Any idea where this photo was made?

should request this stereoscope be animated.

I am unable to 'see' the bird. Must be blind in one eye and can't see out the other.
