Just trying to get everyone's opinion on this Kepi. CW or Post War? If CW, Medical, sharpshooters? Federal or Confederate?

Looks French to me and the sweatband is either not original to the piece or it has been poorly re-sewn. The stiffener is outside of the liner, which could just mean that the lining is loose and needs to be placed correctly. The large disk and braid scream French to me and it would be interesting to see if the buttons are original to the piece. One never knows, I'd have to inspect it personally to get a real feel for the stitching, weave and overall construction. I would expect there to be fading where the chin strap would have been and since there is none, I would venture to say that it had a cord, in line with French construction.

I agree with @Package4 on this one. What are the back-marks of the buttons.

You should be able to see whats on the back.

I would say if it was American made, it is not Civil War. The sweat band is not right. I don't even like it. Not high quality even for France. I guess it is green in color, the braid is gold. The corps badge if it is that, is not of the ACW era. Stay away from this one.
