Last weekend in Thompson CT there was a local event trying to recreate Petersburg. Now we don't get much funding for these types of events up here and History isnt really on the front of everyone's minds so with limited volunteers and resources I think the organizers did a pretty good job setting up earthworks for Union forces to assault. Here are some photos from both days.

It looks as though you had a similar situation to one I remember from back in 1983 when our group was invited to a living history event IN Vicksburg National Military Park - naturally we were forbidden to DIG earthworks (or any other holes, for that matter), so instead constructed these faux "works" made from plywood and covered with brush and sandbags! It was totally removeable, but we had the satisfaction of camping overnight right on the actual Confederate trench line!

@2rivcob73 ,

You may have not got a lot of funding for your event, but it looks like to me you all did the best you could with what you had.

Great job by one and all!

Thanks for the great pics and for taking the time and effort to post them here for all the forum to enjoy.

Sincerely,
Unionblue
PS: As for the coffee, no thanks, I'll chew the beans raw, if you don't mind! :wink:

Thank you Unionblue! The organizers did amazing work leading up to this event and are doing Balls Bluff in 2 years on the same property so we are hoping to get a lot of people up from the Mid Atlantic and New York regions to participate in a New England event.

I understand not your fault for such stupid actions. Maybe a word to your groups person in charge may enlighten him that some things are not in good taste. Sorry to bring it up, I in no way wish to detract from your excellent efforts.

I wish them nothing but the best in putting on that event!

Good luck with it!
