Hi all!

I'm doing some research for school about the Old South, and why the slave society didn't internally combust prior to the war- does anyone have any source suggestions? I'm already using "Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl" (Jacobs), "Secret and Sacred" (Hammond), "The Interesting Narrative and Other Writings" (Equiano), "American Slavery" (Kolchin), "The Peculiar Institution" (Stampp), "What Caused the Civil War" (Ayers), "The Slaveholders' Dilemma" (Genovese), "Becoming Confederates: Paths to a New National Loyalty" (Gallagher), and several articles.

Thanks ahead of time!

We have had some threads on that subject recently. One of the moderators might help you find them. The problem for slaves when it comes to conducting a revolt is how to keep the revolt a secret? The second problem( not that the first is a small one) is where do the slaves get arms/ The third problem is how to fight off local militia? Their where not many slave revolts even during the CW. On the other hand many blacks joined the USCT when given the opportunity.
