The 19th Illinois Infantry organized Chicago, Illinois and mustered into federal service June 17, 1861, for three-year enlistment. Regiment was mustered out of service July 9, 1864. Served at battles of Stones River / Chickamauga / Missionary Ridge / Resaca / Atlanta Campaign. Also involved with the September 17, 1861 train wreck on a sabotaged bridge at Huron, Indiana, injuring or killing 100.
