The Golden Circle

OOOOOO. This is very interesting. Thanks for the original post and thanks for the documentary link. I'll watch later tonight.

In my view it was a very entertaining treasure hunt that revealed nothing and really went nowhere. It was mostly myth and lore (that was the fun part) and might have been mixed with a little bit of fact. From the get-go, when the host announced he wanted to find out about "lost Confederate gold", I knew it would be a 45 minute hunt that would find nothing and only reveal further myths, legends and lore. How did I know immediately? If this production company had discovered anything at all of serious historic or financial value, it would have made national news long before the post production was complete on this episode.

If you enjoy stories like "The DaVinci Code" for their pure entertainment value, you'll enjoy this, too. Just don't take it seriously.

That's not what I'm looking for, however. I'm interested in the policies, ambitions and such of the Knights of the Golden Circle.

I understand, and I'm sorry to say I can't fill you in much about that. I think you'll find a bit of discussion about those issues in this program, but the program is mostly a treasure hunt. Still, you'll find a few references to the things you're seeking.

However...

There are lots of people here who know about the Knights and who have discussed them previously and I'm sure they will chime in shortly. I will be checking back, along with you, because I think the Knights are interesting in a sort of weird way.

Thanks for an interesting thread!

Thank you for helping. I love the idea of the Golden Circle. I mean, I know it'd be a totalitarian hell, but there is something just captivating about it.

I know what you mean. They are pretty fascinating--even though I've only read about a few of their goals and didn't agree with those. Still....pretty interesting! Secret society with (apparently) wide membership, probably some influential members and all that. It's very fascinating. The secrecy makes it more so. Hang in there. I am pretty sure someone will respond with some links or whatever, leading you to the information you seek. Just don't expect to be completely charmed by what you discover. I believe these guys wanted to expand slave holding territory. While I enjoyed the whole secrecy aspect of the thing and wondered what members they had infiltrated into all walks of life, I could never agree with the goal of expanding slave holding territory.

agoal.

That's an interesting and ambitious plan. I have to wonder whether it was really cooked up by the rebel war department or whether it was more of a concept floated by the man's local society. Regardless, it's a good read.
