As we are at his children already we can say that the service didn´t end there. Two of his grandkids, the sons of Maria Louisa Longstreet, did their duty in the next century as well (pictures from findagrave).
James Longstreet Whelchel graduated from West Point in 1918 and was promptly sent to France (though I´m not sure if he arrived in time). He also participated in World War II; serving in the coastal artillery and receiving the Legion of Merit. I have no more details about his service in either of the wars. Later he was a quartermaster. His final rank was Colonel.

It was Julia's brother, also at West Point, that introduced her to Grant, I think
