<u>The Day Lincoln Was Shot</u> by Jim Bishop
This is by no stretch of the imagination a new book - the copyright date on the copy I just finished is 1955. I don't know if you can still find it in stores, but a visit to the local library might turn up a copy (that's where I found it).
The book is written in a style reminiscent of the current TV series "24," in that it follows the events hour by hour from 7 AM on April 14, 1865 to 7 AM the next day. The author stops the hour-by-hour account after the first couple of hours to fill in background information, then continues with the hour-by-hour account.
While the reader, of course, knows from the outset that Lincoln dies at the end, the book fills in a great many details that I never knew before, both about the events of the assassination and what a typical day in the life of the President was like.
Many of the members of this board may have read this book in the past, but for those who haven't, I would definitely recommend it.
