"The Crossing" was where the Memphis and Charleston crossed the Mobile and Ohio railroads in Corinth. This small little area was the reason for the Battle of Shiloh, the Siege of Cornith and the Battle of Corinth. So much death and devastation for so little space

David

It's the reason for some pictures too. Don't mean to make light of the death and devastation either. The after-battle pictures at Battery Robinette tell part of that story.

I wanted to add my favorite photo of the crossing with my grandson, @kilroy15, standing with the Memphis & Charleston running to his right and the Mobile & Ohio running to his left.

I am at a loss as to how the wheels role over the intersections? There isn't enough clearance it appears to me for the train to remain stable. On either side of the rail.
Lubliner.
Perhaps @DaveBrt may be able to help. I have meet him and he is very knowledgeable about railroads

Thanks for the compliment, Dave. The way I understand it is this: the junction was done on a slight angle (see picture in post 1) so 7 of the 8 wheels of a car would be firmly on track as the 8th one crossed the other set of tracks.

That is a great point. Think of all the lives lost for this tiny space.
