Lincoln The AOP gets a new commander

OTD - July 27, 1863
President Lincoln, at a conference in the War Dept., agrees to relieve Gen. Hooker of command of the Army of the Potomac and replace him with Gen. George G. Meade.
Lincoln telegraphs Hooker: "It did not come from the newspapers, nor did I believe it, but I wished to be entirely sure it was a falsehood." [This probably refers to rumor that Hooker was AWOL from army.]

And of course, Meade didn't actually take over until he received the order on June 28th.
