Texas Plantations

I'm doing research for my Civil War novel, and I'm afraid I've hit an area where I need to increase my knowledge. I'm considering having a character from Texas, and I wondered: did any part of Texas have the kinds of cotton plantations that you saw in places like Mississippi and Georgia?
