From the Memphis Daily Appeal, (Memphis, TN), Jan 9, 1862 pg 3 C5
"The Houston Telegraph of the 1st, contains the following welcome announcement:
We learned last night, that a steamer has arrived in a Texas port, within the last week, under British colors, bringing forty five tuns (sic) of cannon powder, a large amount of rifle powder, 700,000 army caps, 500 cannon primers, and a considerable amount of coffee, dry goods, bagging, rope, etc. We acknowledge our indebtedness to the purser for a New York Tribune of December 17th..."
Another item in the Memphis Daily Appeal of Jan 16, 1862, pg 3, C6 concerns the well known river captain De Haven.
