This is being offered at the Cowan's Auction tomorrow and I had never seen such a piece, it is an Allen & Wheelock revolver fitted into the handguard of a saber.

I've never seen anything like that before. My first thought, though, is that it would make for a very unwieldy revolver and saber. I think I'd have stuck with the traditional separate accoutrements.

done my share of fencing, i think this is just a show-piece or some disprove of concept
- as a saber it's way too heavy at the the rear end
- the trigger effectively fixates your hand in place
- as a revolver it's too heavy on the front end - if you are lucky you shoot the other guy in the foot
the second one looks like a katana crossbread with a 08 (luger for americans), the perfect axis weapon - it's equally as wacked as a weapon

I agree completely. I have no experience with edged weapons but just imagining using that thing led me to think it wouldn't be balanced and that one's grip would be awkward to say the least. I do, though, have considerable experience with revolvers and can definitely say that all that blade out front would have made shooting quite difficult. The only (very slight) advantage might have been to dampen recoil but that would have been at the expense of having to hold the da*n thing up with all that forward weight and the reduced maneuverability of a weapon employed at close range. I hope nobody really paid for one of those.
a broad grin while you still try to figure out how to use that abomination, they'd have you run through, slashed open your head or just shot you with their revolver (a proper one)
after that they are off to find that friend of yours who bought the same joke
