Sword Question Repeat!

No. We've all made mistakes and errors on our collection journeys. Thankfully yours wasn't an expensive lesson.

If you're really interested in collecting anything (guns, swords, plates, bullets, insignia, etc) you need to buy/read books. Lots of books. This way you'll know what to look for, whar you're looking at, and on rare occasions be able to find that diamond in the rough overlooked by others.

I've been in your shoes more than once (the latest last month which I'll post about later). Chalk it up to a cheap lesson learned and keep researching!

Clean the rust up and you've got a cool wall hanger for not much $.
I'm going to agree with captaindrew. You can clean it up and enjoy it as a wall hanger. The purists among the collecting community probably wouldn't consider such a thing, but I'm fine with it...PROVIDED...you never misrepresent it. Actually, I think the fact that it's a reproduction is a good conversation starter when your friends notice it and ask you about it. You can have fun researching how to clean it gently, too.

Good for cutting birthday cakes. Try bringing it out at a family steak dinner, perhaps. 😉
