How can you tell if swoard handle is rewrapped?

Generally speaking, the manner it was re-wrapped and the material. Sometimes it takes a real close look. Wire wind, leather appearance, seam/overlap.

And sometimes the pommel cap and tang can be clues, as they may be ground flatter than their original shape if the sword hilt was taken off and then reassembled.
