Stones River Diorama.

Here's the Diorama Richard @ucvrelics asked me to make to be given out as a prize in the 2022 Stones River Muster raffle.

I started with the groundwork using stones which I painted dark grey and then dry brushed white to bring out the details. For the grass and soil I used materials bought from Woodland Scenics and added the twigs found in the garden.
The wounded Union figure I sculpted using Magic-Sculpt.

The next stage was to build the figures, again using Magic -Sculpt. I decided on 2 carrying rifles with their cartridge boxes held aloft , 1 Flag bearer and 1 falling over.

The river bed was painted in preparation for pouring the Woodland Scenics water effect liquid.
Also a test to find the right positions for the figures before pinning and gluing them.

Painted in Acrylics with the flag added using sheet lead.

Finished in a display case with a pictured backdrop and labelled McFaddens Farm/ Stones River.

Pleased to say it now belongs to Michael @Rusk County Avengers and very much deserved after taking up the challenge to wade across Stones River.

Great to see this How To images even though I still wouldn't how How to Start.
When I saw the finished product, I was sure I could see down into the water at least a little bit. Did you lay a translucent coating to the final base---even a very thin one?

Having had the opportunity to see this gorgeous piece of art, I can attest to how skilled the artisan is! I saw Michael wade across the North branch of Stones River and he truly earned this diorama.

Once again y'all got me overwhelmed. I know right now that diorama occupies a spot on a shelf while I move, and once I build a new bookcase it'll have a place of honor in the central display, I plan on having in the case. Flanked by a Navy Colt and a buckle or something else CW.

I'm still plotting this venture and praying for the time to build it in-between work, moving, CS uniform projects, and so many other things.

Also, the diorama is WAY more impressive than what I did!

That takes a rare and magnificent talent to create.

Great to see this How To images even though I still wouldn't how How to Start.
When I saw the finished product, I was sure I could see down into the water at least a little bit. Did you lay a translucent coating to the final base---even a very thin one?

After pouring the water effect solution and leaving it to dry for 24hrs you end up with it looking flat like glass. I then brushed on a layer of Mod Podge and by using a straw I blew the liquid around to get the effect of ripples in the water.

That´s really nice! It´s an unusual way to treat figures - most modelers avoid trying to depict water. Including me. The caption should read ¨Yeah, it gets deep right there.¨
