hi everybooties and forgive me .. nots, as Patrice Rushen sang.

i'm collecting pics about flags of each single state of the great America, also previous rathern the civil war.

i found in wikipedia, high quality flags for most of the southern states (except for Arkansas), California, Vermont and New York.

but anyway about the northern states, Missouri and Kentucky nothing !

would you have to suggest me where i can find flags of the period for the northern states.

thank you

The Flags of the World site is a very good online reference, that shows both current and historical flags for each state, with detailed notes. It's my go-to site.

One thing you will find is that some states (apparently) didn't have official flags in the 1861-65 period -- Kentucky looks to be one of those.

Wow Andy, after a few clicks in that link it brought me all the way to photos in the Tennessee State Archives from the Civil War.

I found one I'm drooling over that was taken of Lew Wallace, here in Bartlett! (Then called Union Depot).

I was looking up North Carolinas state flag for the civil war a while back. I read that until the war they never had a state flag before.

So possibly other states did not even have a flag back then.

Go do a google search for "State Historical Society of Missouri." Once there, do an internal search on their search engine for "Civil War flags of Missouri". You will see lots of flags from both sides of my very divided border state.

Current Flag has Blue field adopted in 1901. Prior had a Buff field.

Major Bill hi and thank you to re-welcome me, it always makes feel good.
regimental flags are usually, if not totally, originals from photos, but if you know where they look good or anyway reproduced, let me know, i'm collecting also those.
anyway i was refering to single state flag.

It was my fault. I sent you to the wrong agency. It gets confusing, because the State Archives and the State Historical Society cross link their sites to each other. The State Archives has an ongoing conservation project for its Civil War flags. Follow this link and it'll take you to a screen which talks about the collection and the preservation effort. At the bottom, you'll see a navigation button that says "View Collection": http://cdm16795.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/landingpage/collection/cwflag

Montana born in 1889 and it manteins the same flag since when born, so i can find an excellent big flag of the state in wikipedia, because is a today's flag.
anyway the site suggested by Andy Hall seems the only completed chanel where find historical flags in discrete size and good quality.
ciao and .. sure .. don't stop to suggest/post.
(why playing take command 2nd manassas each federal regiment shows the today flag of the state where regiment come from? game lacks of historicity?)
