Can anyone give an update to the current situation with the Springfield Research Service. I have emailed and written letters but get no response at all. Are they still operating? Any information gratefully received.

They are no longer doing their thing. Is there any particular info on CW weapons you need?

Thanks for getting back to me UCVRelics. You helped me with my Sharps M1863 carbine recently which was very much appreciated. My problem is this; a number of years ago I purchased a Colt Model 1861 revolver serial number 2852 at the Cleveland gun show when I was in the US on business. It was identified to John M Martin, Co F 13th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry with accompanied paperwork from SRS stating this. I met Dave Taylor at the show and he confirmed it was all good and reliable. This has all got to be 25 or so years ago. I sold the pistol with all paperwork some years later and always regretted it. However, recently, I saw it in and auction here in the UK but there was no paperwork with it. I purchased the revolver and wanted to contact SRS to get replacement paperwork and the rest, as they say, is history. I'm assuming the information came from the Illinois cavalry company books but I have no way of accessing these here in the UK. I posted some photos of the revolver on a previous thread. Not sure where to go from here. Obviously any help is appreciated.

Thank you for reply and information, very gratefully received. Can I ask where this information is located so I can list it in my records. As mentioned I have the first 3 vols of SRS serial numbers but have no access to vol 4. Hope you don't mind me asking, shame that SRS are not still operating as they supplied the original letter so all the research has been done. Thanks to all, really is a great site and so useful to us UK collectors. Have attached a few photos.

Hi everyone!
This is my first post here. Sorry if I jump on someone else's post; it is a related question and I would be thrilled to receive some help. I am from Sweden, and I have had about 50 guns and revolvers, plus about 30 rifles in my life. I shoot IPSC, CAS, Blackpowder, National Shooting, etc. My passion for the American Civil War has grown immensely in the last few years, and after I have had my share of various quality revolvers, I recently received this Colt Army 1860 #109663. I have kept my eyes peeled on different forums and have learned a little about factory marks, cartouches, martial markings, etc. The level of knowledge this forum possesses impresses me very much, which is why I am asking for information about the "E.C.R. S.M.F. 4 22 69" stamped into the trigger guard (please see attached photos). I think the cartouche on the left of

the grip is from an inspector by the name of Elisha Marshall Camp. I am grateful for as much information as possible. If anyone could help me locate the military unit, it would be wonderful, then I can continue from there!

Thanks in advance!
