I can't speak for spherical shells and Northern shell boxes, but I have a 7" Brooke Bolt and it's original packing box and I was surprised at the crudeness of it's construction - it looks as though I built it.

Is there a particular caliber type your seeking?. The one in the image is for a Naval 8".

Not all were created equal nor the same. Despite Ord Regulations that provided a general guide of what they were suppose to be, each respective arsenal produced or had contracted to produce shipping crates that tended to vary quite a bit. Color coding by projectile type, wasnt always followed. Most were painted, some not. Also they habitually evolved and changed over the course of the war. Surviving originals are comparatively rare. Examples of some calibers and types are near non-existant that have survived. Earlier crates were frequently discarded or repurposed... latter ones were typically required to be returned to the arsenals, hence fewer have survived.

8" siege mortar shell is what I need to replicate crates for

I hope you will post a picture of it. I'd love to see it.

Well lets see them.
