Something that has been bothering me...

When I look at ebay now it seems that there is an inordinate amount of musket parts being sold from what is clearly the same musket that has recently been parted out.

I admit that I have previously happily purchased separate parts for my various projects and I realize that there is still a need for original parts, but it has been bothering me recently seeing multiple sequential listings of parts that are all from the same long arm that up until recently was a complete original arm.

What is everyone's thought on this?

Often partying out a "sporterized" weapon proves that sometimes the sum is worth more than the whole.
Yes I would agree on that, but what I have been seeing is full length muskets being treated this way.

I realize they can do as they please, but a complete original weapon with its own history intact is a poor choice to do this with.

Ouch... I agree especially as I don't see the parts as worth more than the whole.

Some years ago, eBay allowed selling antique arms complete. That's not been allowed for some years now. So, a seller on eBay who has a complete civil war era musket can't sell it.
But that seller can take it all apart and sell the parts as parts.
For arms that are hand fitted and not interchangeable, those parts will often not fit the buyer's item that needs a part or two. But the seller has got his payment for that part!
Also, many times a potential buyer who hopes to bid on all the various parts so they can put the item back together will pay a high price for the first of the items, only to find they are outbid on some of what they need - so the seller may receive a double-high price for the first part offered!

Unless a seller is more comfortable parting out thru ebay and completely turned off (bad experiences) and doesnt want to deal with any processing hassles selling an antique firearm via one of the online arms sites. Could be a bunch of different reasons.
