Soldier Carvings

Anybody out there in the group have any muskets, rifles,pistols ect. with soldier carvings on the stocks ID ect. Lets see some post them if you have them.

I have pics of a pair of M1861 stock carving copied from originals. One was a very nicely carved sketch of s rose the other a crude Devils head iirc. I'm not sure where those pics are. I'll try to find them and post in the next couple days.

One might imagine with a lot of in between time on their hands more the a few would have done some creative whittling

I have a few muskets but none that were carved on. I am going to find one, one day.

This was copied from an original on to a repro. The original had provenance to an Iowa soldier though I believe the carving was likely done after the war when he owned the piece.

Not a weapon carving and pre-ACW, a plank carving of a dragoon found from a California seller. It appears to be cedar or mahogany, about 12" high. Sent off to a friend that had sent me a large expensive text volume.

This would be the Civil War equivalent of trench art.
