Anybody out there in the group have any muskets, rifles,pistols ect. with soldier carvings on the stocks ID ect. Lets see some post them if you have them.
I have pics of a pair of M1861 stock carving copied from originals. One was a very nicely carved sketch of s rose the other a crude Devils head iirc. I'm not sure where those pics are. I'll try to find them and post in the next couple days.
This was copied from an original on to a repro. The original had provenance to an Iowa soldier though I believe the carving was likely done after the war when he owned the piece.
Not a weapon carving and pre-ACW, a plank carving of a dragoon found from a California seller. It appears to be cedar or mahogany, about 12" high. Sent off to a friend that had sent me a large expensive text volume.
