Socket Bayonet

A friend recently gave me a socket bayonet. I searched a few socket bayonet web sites to gain some information about it, but could not find any thing that showed it markings.
It has a socket that is 3 inches long with usual locking ring. The blade is 18 inches long. On the center of the Ricasso there is a small punch mark with "US" underneath it. A small "8" is located directly under the US. Does any one know anything about this bayonet?

Thanks
Willie

Attached are four pictures. One of the pictures shows the markings and could be difficult to read. The markings are a "punch mark" above the "US" and below the "US" is the number "8"
The measurement of the bore facing the blade is .760 inches.
The measurement of the bore facing the rifle is .790 inches.
