Hello all! I am wondering if anyone knows were I can find the rules for the N-SSA smoothbore pistol event. I have an 1842 Aston pistol and I would like to learn the rules so I can practice using approved loading methods etc.

Also, my 1842 Aston has a severely pitted barrel and I am having Robert Hoyt reline it. To what caliber should I have it relined? .540? Large? Smaller?

Thanks so much all! :)

As far as the N-SSA rules, have you tried their website?

and I'd probably go with 0.54 cal

Thank I was having problems locating it. I didn't think it would all be in one giant manual!

Since the N-SSA requires a bare ball, or one with foil on it, I think .540" would be smart to go with. Hornady makes .530" and .535" balls so those should be about ideal for a bare ball in the bore, right?

PS: Does anyone know where I can find N-SSA targets for sale? I would like to buy some #5 and #4 N-SSA targets for practice at 25 and 50 yard smoothbore pistol training. If this is outlawed, I apologize in advance. I would LOVE to participate in this event soon, and would like to practice.

Thanks! I will do just that. My 1842 Aston is at Lodgewood Mfg. right now for minor lockwork and stock repair. Once I get it back, I'll ship it off to Robert Hoyt to get relined to .540" caliber.
Then, this summer, I'll be training HARD for the N-SSA Smoothbore Pistol event! I can't wait!! :bounce:
