Did coastal artillery have a front sight? It seems that the cannon I saw just had a bracket at the breech for a rear sight. Did not see a front sight. Was the front sight removable too? Or possibly broken off?

I took a quick look at "The Big Guns", nothing regarding details on sights, other than one mention regarding "Sights, if it had one'. Some of the drawings had a base for a pendulum hausse, which would have had a front sight blade at the muzzle.
Some artillery ( parrots, for example), would have a sight that was on the side of the breech, and the front blade was on the rimbase.
so from what I can gather from the above, it may have varied on the heavy artillery. Once thing I can say, is that most front sights were threaded and screwed into a hole on top of the muzzle. They are a small item and one that is frequently missing from originals, either taken off or broken off from rough handling once they were declared obsolete and taken out of service.
