Howdy all,

I've decided to create a second reenactment persona only recently, and just wondered how many of my fellow reenactors have more than one?

I'm going to have a second Revolutionary persona, which is that of militia. My unit goes straight traditional Continental Line uniform, but i want a more realistic look.

What do you have in mind?

Well Scarter, I've decided to give my original persona, James Leckemby, an identical twin brother (which has its basis in reality - I was the youngest of a pair of identical twins).

I was just wondering how hard it might be to have two personalities on the go and also trying not to get the two confused when at a reenactment...

So would the idea be to dress differently or what would you do?

My grandfather and his brother were both in the same Georgia regiment and fought numerous battles together, including the cornfield and Bloody Lane at Antietam. Not sure how much they looked alike. Not twins.

I think that could work Scarter - but I'm wondering if creating a different personality, might be able to set them apart?

I've got four! 1st Texas Inf, 8th Texas Cavalry, CSMC, and in honor of my 2nd Great Uncle the Co B, 15th Texas Cavalry (Dismounted)...may do one also in honor of my gggrandfather on dad's side, 1st Arkansas Infantry (Union) or his bro-in-law, 1st AR Cavalry (Union)...decisions decisions!!!
I don't have a hard time really. Most of them are for Living History presentations at schools anyway. I've got complete bio's done on the three I've completed. The only one I do re-enactments with is the 1st Texas Infantry. Can't do Cav w/o a horse, just not feesable....LOL

I am currently thinking of purchasing a horse (I have access to stables and many friends who ride and at least one who is a former jockey who now trains), but I'm so paranoid about them involved in reenactment that I likely wouldn't go that direction.

All I can say is that that sounds awesome. One of my grandfathers was in the Wood Co Texas cavalry. Don't ask me the commander or unit. I don't recall at the moment.

That should be easy to trace scarter92. Stony, out here, it's up to the individual if he wants to do both, but, he's got to be a member of both units. So, most of us just stick to the one unit. I understand that in the midwest and back east that many 'units' require both a union and confederate uniform.

The records in this case are sketchy. He was a part Bradfords cavalry, which may have rolled into Hood's cavalry, but the records aren't clear. We have his pension and it is on his gravestone, but that regiment just isn't well documented.

Howdy all,

In my reenacting career, I have held four.

When I played a Confederate first sergeant in the 17th Mississippi, I was Taylor J. Hamilton, a carpenter from Columbus, Ohio, that went South to join the Confederate cause.

When I played a Union soldier of the 76th OVI, I was Jacob T. Hamilton, a whiskey salesman from Lockbourne, Ohio, that was enraged that his brother, Taylor, had went South to join the rebels. Jacob swore to kill his brother on sight, as did Taylor if he ever had Jacob in his sights (good thing for me, the two never met on the field of battle).

I then played an assistant surgeon with the Union army, giving aid and comfort to the wounded on the field of battle, for a very short time.

I now play a civilian reporter from Columbus, Ohio, who follows his grandson's exploits as a Union army private in regular reports to his newspaper.

Sincerely,
Unionblue

Thank you kindly for your input UB :)

With the Taylor brothers, did you have trouble swapping between the two?

Union_Buff,

As I rarely did Confederate impressions, I had no problem keeping each of them straight in my head. I also made sure the names were similar.

Confederate: Taylor J. Hamilton
Union: Jacob T. Hamilton

Guess what the middle names were. :)

Sincerely,
Unionblue
