Maryland...'bout 55 miles south of Gettysburg.
S.B. Ray was a soldier in the Second Arkansas regiment who volunteered early in the war.
He died in Kentucky just after the Southern invasion of the state that ended at Perryville in
1862. There were small ancient clippings added above the glass housing the tintype.
"My heart when I'm tempted to wander, replies, Here my first love-last love-my only love lies."
This tintype is an early thick one, not one of the later tintypes which bends easily.
