Secession and slavery debate.

For a wile now, I have been reading books published during the civil war about the cause of the war, and I need a little more info on the real cause of secession. I do not believe the war was fought for the institution of slavery, but I have been wanting proof, so can somebody point me to a few books or note about the cause of the war.
