SCHENKL shell

Looking to buy a mint condition non fired SCHENKL shell thank you
Virginia Relics, Horse Soldier, Bullet & Shell, Invaluable, Civil War Shot and Shell Relics, ACW Relics and Worthpoint are good websites for that. Here's an example from Worthpoint, Schenkl combination time-percussion fuze, with an image below of the functions of the actual mechanism from the great John D. Barleson jr. Not a shell, but on all of those sites I have seen at least a few rifled shells in great condition being sold.

That is not a SCHENKL shell lol
You may have forgotten the way the projectile will look prior to firing; the ogive shell with its unique shape not unlike a modern mortar shell is not how a mint condition, unfired Schenkl looks. with the sabot, it looks a lot like plenty of others rifled shells.

Are you sure? Let us wait for some artillery shell experts to chime in. This Schenkl shell is very rare in that it still has its papier mache patch (sabot) attached. The papier mache patch/sabot almost always has fallen apart due to moisture
years ago.

Indeed, you are correct. I get the impression they had only seen some old excavated examples, like the following dug up on May 31st, in Fairfield, Southeast Iowa in 2021 - one of the many, over 10,000,000 estimated (artillery) projectiles shot in this war waiting to be dug up (and are) constantly. (Not my image, but an example.)

In their defense, if I was only familiar with images like these and corroding, excavated examples common to find being sold I would also not recognize an unfired one.
