What is this? Scabbard Suspension Ring?

Hello Relic Hunters- I base my guess off a photo posted in 2021 showing how Calvary carried their saber when traveling.
This piece is solid brass.
Wear at 1 o'clock area, round loop, 2nd pic.

Thank you for verification...found about 50 feet from the Belt Plate I found in April.
probably no way of knowing, but could it have been used with that Belt Plate? Both in use within the same time frame?

I've never seen one with the upper mount orientation sideways, what model do you think it came off of?

I always suspected that these were harness related; maybe something from a wagon. I thought frozen ring mounts on scabbards were more of a post-American Civil War German thing.
