They should make a movie about him. He was pretty famous for his unit etc. He was on PBS Ken Burns series.

I drove to Mt. Pleasant from my hometown of Nashville when I was still in my teens in 1969 or 70 and found the church graveyard and Sam's grave on my own.

By the end of the War, the 1st Tennessee had been consolidated with the 27th Tennessee; a move that neither group was happy with.
