Sam's brother Joe was supposed to be the inventor of the 5 string banjo, said to be the only musical instrument invented in North America. But Sam was J.E.B. Stuart's banjo player. He would ride along and with his little band ( a fiddle player and another on bones) and sometimes break into song. And Stuart would also arrange concerts and balls, even during campaigning.
