Salisbury, NC Monument in danger

Well it was reported that the Monument belonged to the Daughters of the Confederacy and the land the Monument is located to them was deeded to them. So it appears to me that it is on private property.

I would be fine with it being moved to an appropriate location, but paid for by the local government of Salisbury. Maybe perhaps they could swap tracts of land and relocate the Monument in a place it can be honored by those who wish to honor it.

True, but it is a wonderful and beautiful monument! Why should we have to bow down to PC pressure and move our stuff? The things that was placed their by their wives, daughters, mothers, and sisters? That is what is really getting out of hand.

I agree with you and IMO it isn't about being offended any longer. Its about hatred and vengeance now. I always look to make a compromise when I can, but if it is on private property there isn't much they can do and have seen many here say private property is where monuments/memorials belong. I am waiting for their.................But..........

This started with a valid point but its been blown so out of proportion at this point its almost comical IMHO. Hopefully the media will soon find something else to use to leach ratings(Less tragic I pray) and this will be old news. I don't think any storm blowing this hard can keep its momentum for long. At least this ones on private property. If it offends someone they can choose not to look at it like the rest of us do so many things in today's world. I don't think we've done anything but give this nut job Root what he wanted. When did we start negotiating with terrorists? Remember the Bath school bombing? 38 innocent children killed because some nut didn't agree with taxes. Did we burn the IRS because of his views or for those children? Nope... Crazy is crazy. Those statues didn't make him that way nor will removing them stop another lunatic from killing innocent people. Wishful thinking is putting it nicely in this situation. I wonder if the families of the victims are feeling used yet. I think I would be.. Sad situation all around..

The average American seems again to be more concerned with reality television & such.[/QUOTE]

So people who disapprove of the Confederate flag are terrorists, who can't be negotiated with? They are not members of the community, and American citizens? If you polled the families of the victims, and asked, "should SC take down the Confederate flag from the state house grounds" would they approve or disapprove?

Not at all. Root is a terrorist in my eyes, and he was said to have told the police that, "he did it to start a race war". He's the one winning in this situation. He's the terrorist I was referring too. If people don't like the CBF, fine. This is America, they don't have to. That wasn't even close to what I meant. Apologies if I wasn't clear.. I was also referring to monuments not the CBF on state property in SC.

You just do not get it. The CBF and confederate monuments are symbols of repression and oppression to the black minority in the south and are used as such by the white majority.
