Sack coat buttons

I noticed that my sack coat buttons are tarnished. Can they be polished like the belt plate?

I noticed that my sack coat buttons are tarnished. Can they be polished like the belt plate?

Of course - soldiers used ashes from their campfires on a damp rag; but I've always found that Brasso works fine! Tip: either can be messy and stain both Union sacks and Confederate shells - a button board was found to be a handy item to prevent this. Sutlers sell them but to avoid the expense, they're fairly easily crafted from various materials.
