The object that can be seen as a tassle, fringe or acorn affixed to the saber near the handle; is not for decoration alone but--provides a loop between the handle and decoraction to go around the wrist. In saber drills and etiquette this should be on the wrist. Purpose is to not loose the saber should it be knocked out of the hand in combat/use--and dropped/lossed.
