Roller buckle

I've seen several confederate roller buckles. This was found at a 1901 site. Didn't know if someone living there could have been in the war or a father/grandfather . The pin broke when cleaning. It was very fragile and tons of rust built up. Is there a way to ID this as civil war? Is it military? WW1? Horse tack? Thanks for looking.

It looks like a saddle or harness buckle. You have to remember that back then everyone had a horse or wagon team. There is no real way to tell. Now if found in a CS camp yes it would be CW.
