I've stated here before, but I once had the pleasure of meeting and hearing him address the Dallas, Texas Civil War Roundtable back in the 1990's - the subject: Stonewall Jackson, of course! May he RIP.

He was my favorite and I love reading his books. He also wrote the Virginia regimental history book for the 4th VA Inf in which my GGGrandfather served in during the war. Bud was a legend and will be missed!

James Robertson also wrote the Virginia Regimental History book for the regiment one of my 2x great grandfathers served in, the 18th Virginia Infantry. I enjoyed his documentary work on Civil War Journal, listening to his Virginia drawl was a treat. He was also one of the foremost Stonewall Jackson scholars in existence and I hope he is sitting in a Civil War symposium in heaven now.

Did not know him personally, but I heard him speak in person at least once and saw him on television a few times. Not sure exactly how many of his books I have read, but he was a terrific historian and speaker.

I used to listen to his lectures about all of the things that sprang up because of the war and include them in my own Civil War school presentations.

The man was a fountain of history and a true teacher of history.

I will miss him.

Together with Gary Gallagher, Robertson was my favorite Civil War historian. Probably generations of students discovered their love for history through him.
Great scientist, great teacher, great narrator.
He left his mark. May he rest in peace.
