Hello,
I've a chance at getting a 1863 Richmond carbine. Correct low hump lock. Steel buttplate. Rear site has T shape slot. Everything looks ok. However, Flayderman says it should not have a stock channel for Maynard device under the lock. But, th Confederates took stocks from Harpers Ferry too. So, do I buy it with the channel there or avoid due to that alone?

Thanks,
Chris

I looked at that gun in person at the last Rock Island auction. Aside from any issues it has with its configuration there is a huge amount of stained wood putty or other filler between the lock and lower band.
For that reason alone I wouldn't buy it.
