Hollywood Cemetery and White House of the Confederacy.

If it's battlefields you want to visit, it depends on what area of Richmond you'll be at and how much you want to be on foot.

If you are on the east side of Richmond and you want to visit battlefields, Cold Harbor and Gaines Mill are close to each other and a visit is a very efficient use of time. Good driving tour at Cold Harbor. Small Visitor Center is probably closed on Sunday. Not much driving at Gaines Mill but the walking trail is not long or tough. Nearby Cold Harbor National Cemetery is small and a bonus short stop.

If you are on the south side of Richmond, you've got Petersburg and Five Forks. Nice Visitor Center and driving tour at Petersburg with several great stops. The NPS preserved part of Five Forks is pretty compact and doesn't take long to tour. Small Visitor Center there is probably closed on Sunday.

I little outside Richmond but I visited Appomattox for the first time last year for the 160th living history event and really enjoyed it. Got there on Friday morning so I could see the sights before the event started. The museum and NPS park were great and walked most of the battlefield in a few hours, a day well spent.

Virginia Historical Society which includes now the Museum of the Confederacy.
Seven Days Battle (fields)
Yorktown (both ACW and Am Rev significance)
Drury's Bluff
Used to be Tredegar Iron Works, but it's been repurposed to slavery. Nearby is Belle Isle, site of the prison camp.
Virginia State Library - original documents and O.R. Supplemental (plus many, many other works on the ACW).
Bermuda Hundred.
City Point.
Fort Belvoir (and other military forts with good museums)


Other side trips:

Petersburg & the battlefields around it
Overland Campaign battlefields (Wilderness, Spotsylvania CH, North Anna), Cold Harbor (I & II)
Chickahominy
Virginia State Military Museum

If you're short on time and interested in battle sites I second bdtex. You can see a lot at Gaines Mill and Cold Harbor in a short period of time.
Drewry's Bluff and Fort Harrison can also be done together in a short time. IMO they are really worth seeing for the extensive earthworks.

If you're driving up from down south, a detour going to or from Richmond through the Norfolk area is worth it.

Fort Monroe, Fort Norfolk and Yorktown are all worth visiting. Especially if you're into fortifications.

Richmond native here. With 1 day as bdtex said i would do Gaines Mill and Cold Harbor. You probably could do Malvern Hill too
