Note: I'll post pictures of the back marks once i get home.

The back-marks will tell the tale but in looking at the front die pattern I believe they are post war as the CW period Hope buttons, the word Hope is always in a banner and had scroll work around the anchor.

Early Rhode island island buttons have "hope" in a ribbon like @ucvrelics mentioned and there is one example with that feature that has a patent date of 1875. We need to see the back marks of course but just looking at the face it leaves two choices RI-10A and RI-10B that have Scovill mf'g Co/ Waterbury marks. There are 3 varieties I can see to the scovill mf'g co/Waterbury mark and they are RMDC, small letter DM, large letter DM. Large letters being from the 1870's. We can tell more when we see pictures.

Thanks guys! i just recently dropped about $500 on alberts book, the collecting guide book for it, both of tices books and the smaller one with the dating of the back marks. after becoming a dealer i know understand you cant put a price limit on a solid bullet proof resource/refrence book

Do you have a store or website and what kinds of civil war things will you sell? I'm in the middle of securing my store name and making a website too. I say it a million times on here but if you find embroidered insignia like officer hat badges and shoulder boards let me know please. Congratulations on your books. Probably one of the most important purchases you'll ever make besides the buttons😆
