I would like to contact "Axdrop,'' who wrote to CivilWarTalk on Dec. 27, 2013 about his great-grandfather, Reuben Frank Bernard. Bernard was a Union officer in the Civil War and became a general following the Indian wars. I am writing about Civil War fathers and their sons who fought in the Spanish-American War. "Axdrop'' said he has "a large collection'' of information and artifacts related to the general. I would hope he might also have information about his son, John Jay Bernard, who was killed in Cuba in 1898. Contact Jack Brubaker at [email protected]. Thank you!

I am writing an article for On Point: the Army History Journal about the Campaign of the Rocky Mesa, 20 October 1869 in Arizona. The article centers on Pvt. Charles Schroeter, a German immigrant and cavalryman who was awarded the Medal of Honor for gallantry in that fight. Of course, the Army officer in charge of the two cavalry companies engaged in the battle was Capt. Reuben F. Bernard. I have been able to find only a very bad photo of Capt. Bernard and would like to have a better photo to submit with my article. Can someone who reads this post contact me, and possibly email a good photo of Capt. Bernard to me? Perhaps Axdrop can help with this request.
