Researching my 2nd Greats

Hello everyone! Hoping to find some additional information on some of my ancestors here. This is what I have so far:

2nd Great Grandfather - William Allen Lancaster, Private, Co. D, Camp's Company, 16th GA Volunteer Cavalry. I believe he is mistakenly recorded as "William R Lancaster" on the NPS archives, as that is the only William Lancaster I found listed in Co. D, 13th GA Cavalry Regiment (Combined into 16th Regiment in 1865 if I understand correctly?).

2nd Great Uncle - Thomas Hartwell Lancaster, Corporal, Co. B, Centre Hill Guards, 16th GA Infantry. I have found the most about Uncle Thomas, as he was captured at the Battle of Cedar Creek and spent a winter in a Union prisoner camp in Maryland I believe. It was so cold, he swore when he got home he would build the biggest fire out of hickory that he could and sit by it. He did this, but it was the middle of summer at the time and many thought he'd lost his mind in the war, but according to my grandparents, he was just that adamant about how cold it had been in that prison camp.

(would like to find a better copy of this, can't really make out the writing, and any other records)

2nd Great Grandfather's 1st Cousin - John Tillman Lancaster, Private, Co. D, Camp's Company, 16th GA Volunteer Cavalry. I don't know much else about his service, but as the family story goes, at some point he was billeted or stayed at a farm, fell in love with the literal farmer's daughter, and returned after the War to marry her.

Both William and Tillman are listed here on the muster for Camp's Company. I noted that Uncle Thomas is not listed here in Co. B, but I have found several references to him in the Company, so not sure why he is not listed.

Thanks in advance for any additional information! Anything related to either of the units listed above is appreciated as well!

The attached Role of Prisoners from Camp Lookout shows Corporal T. H. Lancaster, Company B, 16th Georgia on the 11th line from the bottom. The role indicates he arrived at Point Lookout on October 28, 1864 from Harpers Ferry after having been taken prisoner in Strasburg VA (south of Winchester) on October 19 (Battle of Cedar Creek). He was exchanged on March 28, 1865.

The card that you show for T H Lancaster is one of seven that are online at the Fold3 website. Fold3 requires a subscription (it's part of Ancestry but an extra fee over the regular Ancestry membership). Many of us pay for that access: unfortunately their rules prohibit us just sharing the records with you. Some local libraries allow access to Fold3. You might check with yours.

The basic info on the cards says T H enlisted June 21, 1862 at Center Hill. He was a 3rd corporal in Company B of the 16th infantry regiment. He was captured at Strasburg October 19, 1864. He was sent to the POW camp at Point Lookout and was exchanged from there sometime in 1865.

Ah, thank you very much! I need to look into getting that subscription!

There are a bunch of Lancasters in the 13th Cavalry.

John T Lancaster was a private in Company D of the 13th. A note at the bottom of his cards clarifies that he was originally in the 16th. He enlisted at Jefferson, Georgia March 2, 1863. He took on extra duty as a butcher. He was captured and paroled May 8, 1865 at Athens, GA.

William R Lancaster in the 13th also has a note showing he was originally in the 16th. He enlisted September 7, 1862 at Jacksboro, Tennessee. He also took on extra duty, making shoes and boots for the brigade.

That's where I'm having problems...with William...so William R is from Tennessee, so that's not him. William Allen Lancaster was my 2nd Great Grandfather, but other than the Jackson County muster I found, that just listed William Lancaster in the 16th Ga Cavalry, the only other William A Lancaster I found was in the 4th Ga Cavalry State Guard...however, I'm fairly certain that William Allen was also in the 16th Cavalry with John T. Both were from Hall County GA, which is near Athens.

The fact that someone enlisted in Tennessee doesn't mean they were necessarily from there. For instance, if he had wanted to join his brothers he might have travelled to where the regiment was to find them and enlsit.
