Repro Springfield 1861 lock plate

I want to build a new made Lock for a Euroarms 1861 RM using original lock internals, but with a newly machined lock plate. I don't want to use an original plate, as they are not available in new condition, that I can find. S&S Firearms used to offer one, but they say the inventory is sold, and the machinist who made them has died. I have heard that there was a man named Brian Haack, also deceased, who made quality plates. Anyone know if there is anyone out there who makes this kind of thing. Also, looking for inspector stamps. Hard to find these things.

Mr Haack was a machinist by trade who made such high quality reproductions that without him marking them they were indistinguishable from original parts. There have been unscrupulous individuals who have tried to pass off his parts as originals.

I had planned to have him make me a brass mounted M1855 rifle. But he got Ill and passed before he started the project.

Anything made by him was absolutely first rate but he was meticulous about making his work identifiable as repro.

My suggestion is to call and talk to Dave Stavlo at Lodgewood and explain what you want and why. They have far more in stock than what's on their website. They're great people and meticulously honest. David has cost himself a sale a time or two by knowing what I want and telling me something I was looking at wasn't right for my wants.

I need to do a better job of keeping an eye on their site as I've twice missed a Spencer rifle I could afford.

Another possibility is to search out Todd Watts. His work is superb and while he specializes in defarbs he might have a line on Springfield blank plates.

This was the way Sarco operated before the internet. I used to send them a list in a letter of what I was looking for and they checked their warehouse for it. Sarco then called me or sent my list back with prices, and I gave them my CC.
