Remington Revolver

My family has owned this gun for a while and I'm trying to get some details about it and even possibly some type of estimated value. From our research on the web it appears to be a 1858 model with serial number 20972. We're pretty sure the grips have been replaced, the serial number is stamped on the bottom of the barrel and also inside the grip. There is a W stamp on the right side of the frame that holds the cylinder and a R stamp on the bottom side of the barrel almost at the end of the barrel. Any information would be appreciated, see the attached pictures.

Welcome From THE Heart Of Dixie. Very Nice old war horse. What are the markings on the top and what is the caliber, 36 or 44. If the serial # is inside the grips then I would say they have not been changed.

Thanks for the additional photos. Your New Model Army has the 2 line address so it is an early production of this model. Its very hard to put value on items based on photos so I tend to stay away from that here. The front sight is missing and the load lever screw is not original to the gun plus the screwdriver damage will really bring the value down on this piece.

my guess would be check the online gun broker sites to see what the listing goes off for. The value is also determine if there is all matching numbers to have the highest value. Overall that is a very nice piece you got there.

Observation: the squared head of the base pin (see #21, this schematic https://www.gunpartscorp.com/Pub/schematic/Uberti_1858NewArmyNavy_schem.jpg ) seems to be missing.

Is the entire base pin present? When you have the loading lever dropped (as in your second set of pics), is there an 'axle' for the cylinder to spin on?

I would suggest signing up on the Remington Society of America pre-1898 revolver forums and posting the same questions, as they might even give you a hit on which unit it was issued to.
